Looking for something to entertain your kids as well as educate them? The Saints Chronicles is a vibrant collection of four graphic novels that your children will revisit time and time again.

Aimed at readers aged 7-10 years, these lively comics grab your attention right from the first page. With a variety of both saints and artists featured, there’s no time to get bored as we journey from one faith hero’s story to the next. Featuring big names like Saint Francis of Assisi as well as saints you might not have heard of, like Saint Willibrord, your kids can deepen their knowledge of favourite figures while at the same time being inspired by stories completely new to them!

Producer Daniel Burton and editor Kimberly Black have skillfully selected the right artist for each story while Jen Murvin Edwards has written each tale in an authentic yet kid-friendly style with a modern twist. By subtly weaving in hints of twenty-first century vernacular, Edwards bridges the centuries’ divide between subject and reader to successfully engage the audience. The comic style gives children memorable engagement without information overload and every story is framed in a unique way, allowing the saints’ lives to come to life with vibrance and authenticity.

Burton’s featured artists skillfully employ colour to convey mood, and line to establish striking motion that propels the story. This personalised telling of the saints’ stories evokes sympathy and will truly connect your kids to these heroes of the faith – perhaps even sparking inspiration to draw some creative illustrations of their own.

An expert combination of imagery, dialogue thought bubbles and inner narration gives the story fullness and depth while its evocative and emotive illustrations places the audience inside the scene and skillfully directs the reader’s gaze.

The creators have expertly used children where they can to increase relevance and connection, like where Saint Jerome’s story is told through the narration of ten-year-old Mario. Bought as a set, this collection makes the perfect Confirmation or First Communion gift for any special young person in your life. It could also make a great addition to your classroom resources. With an even mix of male and female saints chosen, it is compatible for a combination of kids in mid to late primary and even early secondary.

The educational and faith value of these graphic novels is undeniable. They tell the story in an age appropriate but detailed way, making them memorable through illustration and identifying with characters’ experiences and emotions. Plus, this way of teaching young ones is bound to be far more memorable than a list of facts and figures!
